Tabebuia palmerii

Tabebuia palmeri, the pink trumpet tree, builds a broad, rounded crown that disappears each spring beneath massed pink, bell-shaped trumpet flowers, a display few deciduous flowering trees can match. Out of flower it is a well-mannered shade tree with a clean seasonal habit.

In the landscape

A specimen, shade and street tree of proven performance in warm climates, with non-invasive roots that suit paved surrounds and boulevards. Plant it where the flowering canopy can stand alone, over lawn, at an entry, or as a repeated avenue rhythm at 8–10 m centres.

Growing notes

Thrives across tropical and subtropical Queensland into northern New South Wales, flowering most heavily where the season turns reliably dry. Grows in most soils in full sun, and tolerates moderate frost once established, coastal exposure and tropical heat. Deciduous, maturing at around 8–12 m tall with a comparable spread.
