A rare natural hybrid of the lacebark and the kurrajong, native to south-east Queensland and seldom seen in cultivation. It carries purplish deep pink bells through spring and summer, held against full foliage, on a neat conical to columnar frame.
In the landscape
The upright, narrow habit is the useful part, it flowers heavily without the spread of the lacebark, so it fits streets, driveways and avenues at 5–6 m centres where a rounded crown would need twice the width. It also holds a screen line well, and works as a specimen where a vertical accent is wanted. Roots are non-invasive.
Growing notes
Effectively evergreen, retaining its foliage through the flowering period in spring and summer. Suited to Queensland, New South Wales and warmer Victorian districts, and tolerant of moderate frost, pollution, coastal exposure and tropical heat. Full sun and free-draining soil are both necessary. Growth is moderate, reaching up to about 10 m tall by 4–6 m wide in the ground. Hardy and drought tolerant once established.
