Syzygium Cascade

Syzygium ‘Cascade’ is a multi-trunked small native with a softly weeping habit, flushed bright pink in new growth and covered in pink powder-puff flowers through November and December. A natural hybrid of Syzygium luehmannii and Syzygium wilsonii, it brings rainforest colour at a scale that suits courtyards and terraces.

In the landscape

Use it as a courtyard or poolside specimen where the multi-trunked form can be read at close range, or run it as a screen or informal hedge, it is compact enough to sit below powerlines. It pairs naturally with other rainforest natives and holds interest year-round through its coloured new growth.

Growing notes

At home in Queensland and coastal New South Wales, and in warm, sheltered gardens further south. Grows in full sun or part shade on sandy or loamy, well-drained soil. Evergreen and rounded, maturing at around 4–6 m tall with a spread of 3–5 m. Tolerant of coastal exposure, urban pollution and tropical heat; give young trees protection from hard frost.
