White tamarind is a small, dense native with holly-shaped leaves that emerge bronze and harden to deep glossy green, carried on a neat rounded crown. It is an unshowy tree that does a great deal of work: evergreen, hardy, and one of the few natives that will hold a tight formal shape at street-tree scale without constant attention.
In the landscape
Specified as a small street tree, a clipped hedge or screen, and a small shade tree for courtyards and narrow verges. Roots are non-invasive. At 5–6 m centres it forms a continuous avenue canopy; planted tighter it clips readily into a formal green wall. The bronze flush on new growth gives it seasonal movement that most evergreen natives lack.
Growing notes
Evergreen and genuinely adaptable, suitable in most soils provided drainage is reasonable, in full sun, and tolerant of moderate frost, coastal exposure and tropical heat. That range makes it plantable through Queensland, New South Wales and warmer parts of Victoria. Growth is moderate. In the ground it reaches roughly 5–8 m tall by 4–5 m wide with a rounded crown.
