The place

More than 1,200 kilometres north of our highland estate, the Utchee Creek farm grows in another world entirely. This is the wet tropics of Far North Queensland — cane and rainforest country near Innisfail, where warmth is constant, rainfall is generous and growth never truly pauses.

Where Ravensbourne teaches trees endurance, Utchee Creek gives them momentum. The deep tropical soils and long growing season of the Far North allow advanced trees to reach size and maturity with a vigour the south cannot match, while remaining under the same disciplined cultivation standards we apply across both estates.

What grows best here

The Utchee Creek estate is our tropical specialist. Species that merely survive in the subtropics thrive here, and the farm gives us genuine depth in trees for tropical and warm coastal landscapes — from northern Queensland projects to frost-free coastal sites further south.

Because these trees are grown in the climate they are destined for, they arrive at northern projects already conditioned to heat, humidity and monsoonal rain. There is no acclimatisation gamble; the tree simply continues doing what it has always done.

Larger specimens from this estate are offered as individuals, each with its own photographs and provenance, in the same manner as our highland stock.

Walking the rows

The rows here carry the character of the wet tropics: lanes mown out of growth that never really pauses, air heavy after rain, canopies a season ahead of their southern counterparts. Each paddock is plotted into its rows, each row into its numbered trees.

Every numbered specimen carries a Tree Passport — estate, row, year planted, root-management history, current measurements — and the passport travels with the tree wherever it is planted.

A note on the wet season

The Far North keeps its own calendar. The wet season — broadly December through April — brings the rain that makes this farm what it is, and with it some practical realities: heavy falls can affect farm access, harvesting windows and freight scheduling.

We plan around it rather than against it. Ex-ground harvesting and long-distance dispatch from Utchee Creek are scheduled with the season in mind, and for wet-season deliveries we will give you a candid assessment of timing before you commit a planting program to a date. Trees ordered for the wet months can be held and hardened on-farm until conditions favour both the journey and the planting.
